World Food Champions ( Almost )
Last week our family culinary teams rolled into the World Food Championships in Orange Beach Alabama and almost got away with the $10,000 World Food Championship in the Dessert Category.

Our teams, comprised of Chefs’ Darlene, Shannon, Tawni and Sommer, was lead by Sheff Greg, now known as “The Apple Dumpling King”. Our entries, Inspired by Chef Darlene’s “Salted Caramel, upside down, Apple Dumplings” and “Cinnamon Spice and Everything Nice Carrot Cake Roll” vaulted us from 10th place to 2nd place and $2500 in the final round, an astounding final kick just missing the $10,000 1st place prize and entry into the $100,000 Final Table round.
These contests are the ultimate in the evolving “Food Sport” competitions comprised of ten categories and over 1200 contestants made up of Professional Chefs and Home Cooks from all over the world. Our teams were entered in three contests and we were competitive in all but also exhausted after four days of competition.
Our dessert finals competition was filled with a number of challenges including a untimely breakdown of our condo refrigerator, forgetting to bring cinnamon ( Generously provided by another contestant ) and we left our whipped cream and phyllo dough in the condo, Thanks to Chef Dar’s frantic dash to the condo, we recovered ( This girl can run ).
