Aloha from Hawaii!

I love Hawaii!

We just got back from a week in Hilo and Kona on the Big Island. This is our 3rd trip and we always discover new things to do or simply do the old activities over again. Lots of swimming and snorkeling or simply sitting on the beach. My all time favorite part of being in Hawaii is simply going to the farmers market and enjoying all the wonderful fresh fruits and vegetables.

This year we discovered a fruit called rambutans which are spiny, furry, little red balls that you peel and inside is a fruit that has the texture of a grape but tastes kind of like a sweet citrusy grape? We also gouged on papayas and mango and Oh, my goodness, you will never taste a pineapple as sweet as they have in Hawaii. They also have these little, tiny bananas called apple bananas that really do have a kind of apple taste.

Our big outing was to a restaurant to try the local specialty called “Moco Loco” which is simply rice with a fried hamburger patty and an egg, all covered in brown gravy. Well, I like gravy, so I gave it a try and it was pretty darn tasty! The serving was enough to feed a small family but my husband and I did our best to eat it all. Our daughter had fresh Maui Maui that was lightly battered and delicious.

We decided to do a boating excursion which took us along the shore and to our snorkeling destination. We had a wonderful brunch and hamburgers for lunch.Lots of beautiful fish and the highlight of the trip was we got to see lots and lots of spinner dolphins on our way back to shore.

Seven days and eight nights in paradise and we returned home already planning our next adventure!
