Cuervo Tequila helps Salsa winner Wing her way to Sauce Boss win
Nothing thrills Chef Dar
more than winning food in a recipe contest. She
did just that, in two local "live" contests last month here in
Phoenix. Winning a Mexican food dinner for four, monthly for a year from Macayo's Mexican restaurant and one
pound of hot wings A DAY FOR A YEAR (that's 365 pound of wings) from the Half Moon Sports bar in live competitions
here in Phoenix. Bring on the antacids.
The Mcayo’s competition
and awards dinner was hosted by Cuervo
Tequila. Paring tequila to each course of a four course meal. I,
at first, doubted this was going to work. But, as my lovely companions will
confirm, both the food and the tequila got appreciably better as the courses
progressed. We all loved the dessert tequila Cuervo
Cinge, which had a hint of
cinnamon. All in all, I’d probably do this again, if they invited me.
The Half Moon Sports Bar
hosted their annual Sauce Boss hot wing competition,
bringing in a number of local sports personalities and culinary experts as
judges. Half Moon currently offers seven flavors of wings on their current menu
and is considered “THE” place to eat wings in Phoenix. Chef Dar surprised even Half
Moon’s executive Chef Marlene taking second place with her Red Hot Roasted Strawberry Wing Sauce. Wings will be a staple
for us for the next year for sure.
